Welcome to Sovereign Distinction! (Previously known as CitizensforHJM4009)
Sovereign Distinction is a coalition of Washington State citizens dedicated to the defense of our national, state (10th Amendment), local and personal sovereignty. Our goal is to encourage citizens to educate themselves about the principles that our Great Republic was founded on and to engage in the political process.
"WE THE PEOPLE" want true statesmen/women in office who will uphold the Constitution of the United States and the Washington State Constitution.
Our founding fathers believed in a small federal government with limited powers. They wrote a constitution that is short, sweet and to the point because they knew through their own life experience, that a government without limits is a tyranny.
The 10th Amendment was ratified as an exclamation point on the Constitution – and it lays out in plain English that our federal government is to be one of limited, enumerated powers – not the nearly unlimited, unchecked and out of control government that it has become today.
10th Amendment: “The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”
The tenth amendment truly is our last line of defense. On one side, we have a majority who believe in limiting the power of politicians, and on the other are those that entrust the government to do everything.
The 10th Amendment is the safety valve that makes it clear, especially in conjunction with the 9th, that it was “The People” who created the federal government to be our agent and limited their role through the enumerated powers within the constitution…….and nothing more.
9th Amendment: “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.”
The federal government didn’t create itself - and the state government didn’t create the federal government either. It was “The People” who created the federal government, and it is the People who are sovereign. This has been clearly stated in the Federalist Papers, #22…..
“The fabric of American empire ought to rest on the solid basis of THE CONSENT OF THE PEOPLE. The streams of national power ought to flow immediately from that pure, original fountain of all legitimate authority.”
The above quote was from Alexander Hamilton, who was the greatest believer in centralized power. Amazingly enough, even Hamilton recognized that the power must come from the People. After great debate our forefathers established the Constitution based on this principle.
Our Washington State Constitution states in Article I - Declaration of Rights - Section 1. Political power. All political power is inherent in the people, and governments derive their just powers from the consent of the governed, and are established to protect and maintain individual rights. [Note: "Individual rights"]
“We the People” recognize that we must regain our power over the government, as it is to be our agent not our ruler, only then will we ensure liberty and prosperity for future generations.
At the close of the Constitutional Convention in 1787, Benjamin Franklin was asked, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a Republic or a Monarchy?” To which he replied, “A Republic, if you can keep it.” Samuel Adams once said, "It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds.”
